MES - Manufacturing Execution System
Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a computer-aided system that integrates online and collects all methods and tools used in production.
MES performs four primary functions:
- Collects instantaneous data from the production site (e.g. machine stoppages).
- Organizes data and stores it in a central database (integrated back and forth with ERP)
- It ensures that all data is accessible over the network, including critical data from other information systems where data is stored, such as the planning and engineering office.
- It receives work orders from ERP, organizes them and transfers them to production units. It also increases efficiency and quality by reacting to cases simultaneously with detailed planning.
MES controls the movement from raw material to finished product by monitoring production processes with IT tools. Work orders are served to the equipment by ERP via MES, and the information in the field is transmitted to the ERP system and Andon panels through tools integrated on the machine and equipment or PLC software, not through the operator. In this way, the distribution and collection time of information is shortened and errors are reduced.
Benefits of using MES:
- Shortens manufacturing cycle time.
- Reduces preparation/procurement time.
- It completely eliminates or reduces the time spent on data entry.
- Improves product quality.
- Eliminates or reduces the need for inter-shift documentation.
- Improves the planning process
- Increases the productivity of factory workers.
- Prevents cases of lost documents.
- Reduces the number of products waiting to be produced.
- Improves customer service.
